New student to PHS and Portsmouth?
- Maybe even new to the state of Rhode Island as a whole? No problem! The New Patriot’s Club is a PHS club which is part of a Transition Program started by Addison Bieger and Kaitlyn Hawley in 2012. Coming from military families, they understood how difficult it is to transition into a new high school, especially in a close-knit, small town like Portsmouth. The New Patriots Club, or NPC, is here to aid the transition into not only PHS, but the Portsmouth community as a whole. Current NPC members are not only military and other children who are new to the area, but also local kids who have lived in Portsmouth for years and transplants who have gone through a year or two at the high school.
- Over the summer, new students will be put in touch with one or two students at PHS, hopefully of the same grade and with similar interests. Also, we will have a few meetings, barbeques or beach days, over the summer so you can meet other kids, both new and locals, so that you have a welcoming base of people to go to over the summer and throughout the school year. We will do our best to get you connected with any sports, clubs, or activities that interest you and to make sure that you know a few kids when you start school in the fall. Throughout the school year, particularly for the first few weeks or months, we will have meetings after school regularly so we can answer questions and do anything to help the school year go smoother for you.
- If you have any questions, there are plenty of people to contact! Mrs. Perry and Mrs. Rosander are both teachers at the school who have agreed to help with the club, and John Corbett and Natalie Yaw will be running the club from the student side. If you have any questions about Portsmouth, band or chorus, a sport, art programs, or anything at all, please feel free to contact any one of us.
